3 REASONS WHY STUFF WON'T MAKE YOU HAPPY
Are you one of the people who are in constant pursuit of the new and shiny? Perhaps you feel compelled to keep up with the trends, your social circles to get your hands on the latest item in the market. But ask yourself if these things genuinely make you happy. Temporarily perhaps, but after a while, the happiness fades. Why is that so? Here are some reasons why “stuff” won’t make you happy. Before we begin, when we say “stuff” we mean material possessions like the latest tablet or gadget, branded bags, or expensive cars. Now that we’ve got that sorted, let’s jump right in.
1. There Is Always Something Better
In such a fast-paced society, the world is changing ever so quickly with the advancement in technology. Companies are constantly releasing new products with tiny improvements and somehow manage to convince people that it is worth spending thousands of dollars on. This is a vicious cycle that keeps repeating itself, and you will never be happy if you keep chasing it the new.
2. Less Money
The newest things in the market also tend to be the most expensive. When you purchase such items, you are adding additional stress on your finances and your lives because you simply have less to spend on other things. As a result, you work more and spend more time worrying about money when the easiest thing to do is to not buy the “stuff” in the first place.
3. More Cleaning
For every new item that you bring into your life, it is one new item that you need to spend the effort to maintain. This may seem insignificant if it’s just a few items, but when the “stuff” piles up, the amount of time needed to maintain them really adds up. This results in more stress and less time for you to spend doing things you like.
With all that being said, try to reevaluate your life. Think about your purpose and priorities, value your own happiness over the perceptions of others. Material possessions are not all useless and its totally fine to splurge every once in a while, but learning to place value in experiences over material goods will definitely allow you to lead a more fulfilling life.
